The Painting Process – How We Work

The appearance of your home or workplace is an expression of who you are. When you choose the exterior and interior painting contractors from Dixon Painting to bring color into your setting, it says that you want to get the job done right. We provide solutions that you can live with and that add value to your home. Our goal is to give you the professional paint job that you will enjoy every day. This is how we do it!

Choosing the right color is an important part of the painting process, both for the interior and exterior of any building. Most of us know the disappointment when we choose a paint color and it looks completely different than the sample once it is on the walls. Our expertise will ensure you get the perfect finish so you never have to worry about being disappointed in the color or overall appearance of your walls.

Interior Painting

The color, or combination of colors you choose, should emit a certain mood or feeling that you have in mind for the room. Dark colors can make a room look smaller if it doesn’t have a lot of light. If the room is already dark, lean toward a lighter shade, and you will get the same impact that you wanted from the darker color without making it look like a cave.

Why shouldn’t you have a room painted in your favorite color? If you love red or purple, there’s no reason you shouldn’t apply it to your walls. If the idea of covering all four walls in a bright color seems a little overbearing, consider leaving the color on one wall and toning it down on the rest. Accent walls are great for drawing attention to a favorite piece of furniture or piece of art.

When one room opens into another without any real separation, choose colors that complement each other. A good rule of thumb is to always carry one color from the decor of a room into the next room. For example, if you paint your grand room seafoam green and have green and yellow drapes, and the room opens into the kitchen, sunny yellow would be a good choice for your kitchen walls.

Glossy paints are usually more resilient, but they call attention to any nicks or scrapes. Matte, or flat paint, on the other hand, is great at covering up minor flaws. Any room where there is a lot of traffic, or in the bath or kitchen where there is water and steam, should be painted with the glossiest paints.

Surface and Room Preparation

Surface preparation is essential for achieving a good paint job. Water stains will be sealed to prevent coming through the paint. Any cracks or holes need to be filled with spackle and sanded once the spackle is dry. Painting works best on walls that are smooth, clean, and dry. Depending on the condition of the walls and whether they have ever been painted before, primer may be applied.

Once the walls are ready to accept paint, the furniture and surrounding areas will be covered to protect them. We will determine how many coats of paint your walls need and allow for the appropriate drying time between coats. Once the job is complete, we will clean up the work area and leave your home in perfect condition.
